Tiger soccer shutout in MSC opener

Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University was unable to overcome a 2-0 first half deficit in its Mid-South Conference opener, as it fell 3-0 Saturday to Shawnee State University at Finley Stadium.

The Tigers fell behind early on a Joseph Webster header to an empty Tiger goal in the 10th minute. The Bears added another goal six minutes later on a corner kick by Chad Johnston, headed in by Cody Bond. Johnston added the Bears' third goal in the 58th minute.

"We were outworked to every ball today. We looked arrogant and lazy and that will kill you every time," CU head coach Adam Preston said.

Aside from the goals, the Tiger defense allowed only one shot on goal, which was saved by Tiger keeper Thomas. Aaron Steele relieved Thomas for the final 20 minutes of the first half, but Thomas re-entered the game in the second half. Campbellsville outshot the Bears 21 to 11 and had 10 on target stopped by Shawnee State goalkeeper Kevin Fischer.

CU (2-5-1, 0-1 MSC) will travel to Georgetown College for its next MSC game Thursday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. ET.
