Lady Tigers hold off stubborn St. Catharine, 85-81

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.  -  Campbellsville used a career game from Mackenzie Lee and near-perfect free throw shooting to down a stubborn St. Catharine Lady Patriot team, 85-81, Saturday in the Powell Athletic Center.

"We beat a very talented team today," said Ginger Colvin. "You look at St. Catharine's lineup and they have some players."

Lee had a career-high 29 points, 13 in the second half, as the Lady Tigers improve to 13-6, 4-2. The loss gives SCC a 15-3, 2-4 slate.

Campbellsville hit 25-27 free throws in the second half (39-45 for the game).

"I knew we took it to them in the second half," said Colvin. "I'm just thrilled to death with a win."

CU led 17-2 out of the blocks, but St. Catharine went on an 18-5 run, 16 of the half's final 21 points, to close the margin to 42-39 at intermission.

Campbellsville went on an 11-6 run to start the second half and led 55-47 when Lee his two free throws seven minutes in. But SCC rode the wide shoulders of Kasei Evans, who scored 10 second-half points. Evans' 3-point play at the 10:21 mark gave the Lady Patriots the lead at 58-57. They would lead again at 60-59, but that is the last time they had the advantage.

SCC's Jasmine Gibson led SCC with 26 points. Janae Howard and Evans joined her in double figures with 14 each.

"When they made that run in the second half it was Evsans who did it for them," said Colvin. "But we had to pick our poison. We left Gibson open and to her credit she hit her shots."

Courtney Clifton joined Lee in double figures with 15.

The Lady Tigers will return to action Thursday when they host Lindsey Wilson College in Mid-South Conference play. Tipoff at 6:00. The game will be broadcast over university radio (88.7). A link for listening on the computer can be found at www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
