CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville vaulted to a 10-point lead eight minutes into the second half, but couldn't make it hold up as Shawnee State beat the Lady Tigers 62-58.
The Lady Tigers (14-8, 5-4 MSC) led 46-36 after a
Courtney Clifton 3, but CU committed four turnovers while Shawnee (17-4, 7-2) went on a 19-6 run. By the time Alannah Sheets hit a 3 with five minutes to go, the Lady Bears were ahead 55-52.
"We were extremely prepared, but we had spurts where we weren't very good," said Coach
Ginger Colvin. "We had 19 turnovers and you can't do that against Shawnee and win.
"They defended us well tonight and we didn't handle it very well."
Neither team led by more than four points in the first half until CU used a 3 and a layup by Clifton and a bucket by
Megan Isaacs to lead 32-25 at the intermission.
Chelsea Craig, who led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 16, hit a bucket to draw within 60-58 with two minutes to go. CU got the ball at the 48-second mark and then committed another turnover with 26 seconds to play.
"You look at our rebound line and we don't have anybody with more the four," said Colvin. "I'm not disgusted with our effort, just disgusted with the loss."
Campbellsville needed to foul to get the ball back and sent Ballman to the line with 11 seconds to go. She hit two free throws to preserve the win. Ballman had 13 points. Three other Shawnee players hit double figures ... Alex Pohl 11, Sheets 12 and Catrice Mitchell 14. and nearly had five players in double figures. Clifton hit double figures for CU with 14.
