CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville has been having a hard time holding half-time leads and on Saturday the story was no different. The Lady Tigers were unable to secure a five-point lead and lost to Georgetown 75-63.
"We're just not finishing," said Coach
Ginger Colvin. "We're starters, but we're not finishers. But I'm not going to give up on this team."
CU (14-9, 5-5) shot 36 percent in the first half and only turned it over four times. But midway through the second half the Lady Tigers were hitting at a 27 percent clip and had turned the ball over five times while Georgetown constructed a 58-48 lead. Big for GU (15-7, 6-4) during the run was Mikkah Rogers, who hit two 3s, and Dez King, who scored five.
"I'm just disgusted with the losses," continued Colvin. "It's not from a lack of effort. I think it may be because we are still really young. This conference is just brutal."
Georgetown pushed its margin to as many as 16 and hit 11-13 free throws down the stretch to hold off any hope of a Lady Tiger comeback. CU could score but 28 points after intermission.
A late flurry of points by Compton and
Daizah Kimberland closed the Lady Tigers to within 73-63, but with only 34 second to go in the game.
Georgetown hit three more 3s than the Lady Tigers and out-rebounded CU 43-40.
In the first half, Campbellsville escaped an 18-18 tie by using buckets by
Hayley Hellyer and
Keisha Compton sandwiched around four points by
Chelsea Craig and opened up a 26-18 lead.
Georgetown was led in scoring by Andrea Howard with 23, but GU had a balanced attack with three other players in double figures or within two points of double figures.
Mackenzie Lee led Campbellsviulle with 18 points and was joined in double figures by Craig with 13, only two after the half.
The loss was the third in a row for CU in conference play and dropped them into fourth place in the MSC standings. The win reversed a Thursday night loss to St. Catharine for Georgetown.
The Lady Tigers go on the road to Rio Grande Thursday for a 6 p.m. tipoff. The game will be broadcast over university radio (88.7). A link for listening on the computer can be found at www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
