WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Campbellsville didn't have consistent game, but had game when it counted as the Lady Tigers defeated the Cumberlands (14-7, 5-4) 3-2 in volleyball Tuesday night.
The win helped CU avoid a second straight five-set loss, and consecutive losses in Williamsburg spanning the past two seasons.
"We played well in the fifth set, but often we're out of sorts through most of our matches lately," said Coach Amy Eckenfels.
After carving up Lindsey Wilson a week ago in straight sets, the Lady Tigers (19-7, 7-2) were beaten by non-conference foe Indiana Southeast in five and then had to rally from a 2-1 deficit to overcome Cumberlands 25-19, 22-25, 21-25, 25-14 and 15-9.
The win allows CU to maintain a tie for second in the Mid-South Conference and sets up a day of reckoning this weekend in a Crossover Tournament at Shawnee State where the Lady Tigers will face two of the teams with whom they're tied.
Campbellsville had several people step up in a 57-kill attack. Rinata Aisena collected 15 kills to lead CU and got double-figure support from Daiane Souza (14) and Laura DeGear (10). Kelly Moyer added nine and Giselle Hernandez had six.
Moyer and Audrey Sanders added a team-high four services aces apiece. Hernandez had two.
Sanders and Caitlin Dresing each had 18 digs in a 71-dig team effort. Lexis Lloyd had seven digs and Souza, Jackie Schwieger and Kira Stewart had six apiece. Schwieger added 33 assists to her stat line and Stewart had 15.
Campbellsville next takes to the court Friday at 7:15 when it meets Shawnee State (18-7, 7-2) in Portsmouth, Ohio..
