PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Lady Tiger Volleyball's Jekyll and Hyde season took yet another twist Saturday as CU was knocked out of second place in the MSC with a five-set loss to Rio Grande.

The 2-1 weekend in the MSC Crossover Tournament wasn't good enough for Campbellsville to keep pace with Lindsey Wilson, which went 3-0 on the weekend to stake itself firmly in second. Campbellsville holds third place over Rio and Shawnee State.

CU is 5-4 in five-set matches this season with three of its four losses coming against conference opponents.

The Lady Tigers had to rally from a 1-2 set deficit against Rio and tied the match with a 25-14 fourth-set win. But the momentum did not carry over to the deciding set as Rio pulled away for a 15-10 win. The set scores were: 19-25, 25-22, 25-21, 14-25 and 15-10.

Daiane Souza led CU against Rio with 14 kills and was supported by Rinata Aisena (13), Laura DeGear (11), Kelly Moyer (10), Haley Bechtel (5) and Kira Stewart (2). Souza also had three services aces in the match.

Jackie Schwieger (24) and Stewart (28) shared 52 of the team's 54 assists.

Audrey Sanders (12) and Caitlin Dresing (12) led CU in digs. Lexis Lloyd had eight and Schwieger and Bechtel seven each.

CU (21-8, 9-3 MSC) closed out the weekend with a sweep of Pikeville, 25-22, 25-14 and 25-8.

Bechtel led CU against Pikeville with 12 kills and DeGear had 10. Sanders had four service aces to go along with eight digs.

Dresing led the team with 14 digs, Stewart had eight, Bechtel seven and Lloyd six. Stewart was credited with 31 assists.
