Tigers finish 12th in NCCAA Golf Championships

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – Campbellsville University men's golf finished 12th of 18 teams in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Men's Golf National Championships at The Hombre on Wednesday. The Tigers' started the week in 12th place but only five strokes out of the Top 5 after the first 18 holes, however scorers increased each round to lead to a 313 final round Wednesday and a three-day score of 930, 66 strokes over par.

 



Brandon Collier led the Tigers on the final day, shooting 75. His low round was the third lowest of the tournament for Campbellsville after Trey Shirley shot even, 72, on Monday and 75 Tuesday. Matthew Razor shot 74 on Tuesday.

Collier was the first Tiger to tee off Wednesday, starting on the 10th hole. He birdied holes 12 and 13 to go two-under, but finished his first nine holes at even par. Bogeys on holes one, five and six, pushed his score three-over. Collier birdied the seventh hole but closed the tournament with a bogey to finish three-over. The 75 gave him a three-day score of 242 to finish 56th in the field of 96 players.

Shirley led CU throughout the week, despite shooting 80 in the final round. Shirley fell to a tie for 24th place after starting the week in 11th place. His three-day score was 227. Next for CU was Scott Foster, who bounced back from an 83 on Tuesday to shoot 77 Wednesday. He finished 45th with a tournament score of 235.

Razor followed Foster in 49th-place. He shot 81 on Monday and Wednesday to bookend his 74 on Tuesday and shoot 236 in the 44-hole tournament. Tanner Hall finished just ahead of Collier in 55th-place after shooting 80, 80 and 81 (241) in three rounds.

Oklahoma Christian University ran away with the national championship. The Eagles followed up two rounds of 8-under play by shooting 10-under on Wednesday. They finished 26-under par in three days, winning the tournament by 52 strokes.

Each of the top three individual finishes belong to Oklahoma Christian, led by medalist Vilhelm Bogstrand, who finished the week 8-under.

The tournament concludes Campbellsville's fall golf season. The Tigers' spring schedule is still to be determined, but is expected to begin in March.
