Lady Tigers win Dig Pink Night for third straight year

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Pink filled the building Thursday night, as Campbellsville University served up a three-set defeat of St. Catharine College (25-21, 25-15, 25-18) on Dig Pink Night at Powell Athletic Center.

This is the third straight year CU has won its Dig Pink match since joining the Sid-Out Foundation's breast cancer awareness platform in 2010. CU beat Lindsey Wilson College in four sets in the inaugural Dig Pink match and then swept SCC in three sets last October.

The Lady Tigers were led in scoring Thursday by Rinata Aisena and Haley Bechtel, who combined for 23 points in the match. Bechtel led all players with 11 kills, but Aisena added three solo blocks and an ace to her eight kills to lead all players in scoring.

Kira Stewart and Jackie Schwieger combined for 38 of the Lady Tigers' 42 assists, 19 each. CU had a total of 45 kills in the win, while holding the visiting Patriots to only 21 kills and one service ace.

Caitlin Dresing had 14 digs to lead CU, followed by 12 from Audrey Sanders and nine by Bechtel, who nearly posted a double-double in the win. SCC's Randa Murphy led all players with 19 digs, followed by Chelsea Wichman with 12. Wichman also had 19 set assists.

Rebecca Just led St. Catharine with six kills, while Casey Stone, Maggie Goben and Allie Southard each had four kills.

Campbellsville (22-8, 10-3 MSC) is now one win away from locking in a Top 4 finish in the Mid-South Conference regular season standings and still within range of  finishing runner-up in the MSC. The Lady Tigers will take the weekend off and return to action Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. EDT to host Cumberland University in MSC play.

St. Catharine (11-17, 4-9 MSC) will host the University of the Cumberlands on Tuesday as it looks to hold on to eighth-place in the MSC in order to make the conference tournament in two weeks.
