CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University closed its home Mid-South Conference schedule Tuesday night with a three-set win over Cumberland University (25-13, 25-15, 25-19). The win moves the Lady Tigers into a two-way tie with Lindsey Wilson College in the MSC standings with one night of in-conference action remaining.
Campbellsville made quick work of Cumberland in the first two sets, winning 25-13 and 25-16. Cumberland University battled in the third set though, trying to avoid a sweep on the night. However, CU broke the back-and-forth battle midway through the third set to gain control and win the match.
Daiane Souza led Campbellsville with 10 kills in the match, followed by nine from Giselle Hernandez. Kelly Moyer and Jana Kortas eac had seven for the Lady Tigers, followed by six from senior Laura DeGear. While Rinata Aisena had only four kills through two sets in the match, she had a hitting percenatge of .500, scoring on four of her eight attacks.
Guiding the Lady Tigers' offense were sophomore setters Kira Stewart and Jackie Schwieger with 22 and 20 assists, respectivly. Stewart was 2-for-2 on her tip attacks against the Bulldogs' front line.
Campbellsville also scored nine points off blocks, seven on service aces and took advantage of 16 Cumberland attack errors.
Haley Bechtel had three service aces to lead CU, while Aisena played a part in four blocks.
Cumberland was led by Jacklyn Munoz, who had eight kills, 11 digs, one ace and also was a part of two blocks.
Campbellsville (23-8, 11-3 MSC) will host the TranSouth Athletic Conference regular season champions, Bethel University (Tenn.), Thursday, Nov. 1 for Senior NIght at 7 p.m. CU will then close out the regular season Tuesday, Nov. 6 at Georgetown College to determine final seeding for the MSC Tournament, which will be played Nov. 9-10 in Louisville.
