CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Lady Tiger Volleyball will be making its fourth trip to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament, rolling through the Mid-East Region in the minimum number of three matches.
Campbellsville dropped only one set in three matches while running its season record to 28-10.
"The girls have really come together in these past couple of matches," said Coach Amy Eckenfels. "They are playing as a team and not for themselves."
Eckenfels is excited to be returning to nationals where the Lady Tigers have had some success, winning it all in 2009.
Rinata Aisena had another productive night in leading CU over Union University by scores of 25-13, 25-23 and 25-14. The junior from Latvia posted 19 points and 12 kills.
"I think we played with heart," said Aisena. "Everybody brought a piece of the puzzle today to get the victory. I'm so excited for the opportunity to compete in nationals."
As winners, the team punches a ticket to Kissimmee, Fla. Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
Three other players flirted with double-figure kills. Laura DeGear had nine kills and a like number of points, Daiane Souza had eight kills and eight points, and Kelly Moyer totaled 7 kills and 13 points, including six service aces.
In all the team had 42 kills. Kira Stewart, who had four kills from her setter position, collected 35 of the team's 36 assists. Audrey Sanders, who tacked on three service aces, had eight digs.
Haley Bechtel led the squad in digs with 12. Moyer had eight and Giselle Hernandez five.
