Bethel holds on for 62-60 win over Lady Tigers

MCKENZIE, Tenn. — Alisha Gentry's layup with 40 seconds to go held up for Bethel University as the Lady Wildcats pinned a 62-60 loss on No. 13 Campbellsville University Saturday afternoon in the Crisp Arena.

The Lady Tigers (5-2) led 56-50 with 4:30 to go and Bethel (9-1) went on a 12-4 run to close out the game.

Ginger Colvin was expecting nothing less than a close game when her Lady Tigers traveled to Bethel. In three previous trips to McKenzie, Tenn., the outcome had been decided by a total of six points.

"We always expect a tough game when we go on the road like this," said Colvin. "My kids battled hard.

"They've got a great team, but we were battling more then just Bethel today. The only thing I can hope for is to build a little character from this."

Leading 60-59 with 49 seconds to go, CU turned the ball over three times in the last 17 seconds. Campbellsville had every opportunity, but gave up an offensive rebound and then lost a missed free thrown out of bounds, allowing Bethel three opportunities to hold on to its lead.

"We turned the ball over at the end, but we should have never been in that position," continued Colvin.

Campbellsville led by as many as 10 in the first half, but the Lady Wildcats clawed back over the last four minutes and drew within one, 32-31, at the intermission. CU was up nine midway through the second half.

The Lady Tigers turned the ball over 20 times in the game, 11 in the second half, and hit just 1-8 from 3.

The Lady Tigers will host No. 21 Columbia College Monday at 6 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast over university radio (WLCU 88.7 FM). A link for listening on the computer can be found at www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
