GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Campbellsville had a shot at a No. 2 seed in the upcoming Mid-South Conference Volleyball Tournament, but the Lady Tigers had to go though Georgetown to get it.
Georgetown (31-3, 15-0 MSC) showed why it is undefeated in conference play and No. 11 in the NAIA by humbling CU 25-15, 25-19 and 25-14.
The loss dropped the Lady Tigers (24-9, 11-4 MSC) to a fourth seed in the tournament opposite Shawnee State. The two will square off Friday at 1:00 in the Mid-America Sports Center, Louisville, Ky. If the Lady Tigers win, they will play at noon Saturday against the winner of the match between the No. 1 and No. 8 seeds.
Georgetown went on runs of 11-3, 11-3 and 9-0 in the first, second and third sets, respectively, to generate working margins that were just too much to overcome.
With the score tied 8-8 in the first set, Georgetown took a 15-9 lead after a 7-1 run and then led 19-11on its way to a 25-15 win.
Georgetown broke away from a 5-5 tie in set two when an 11-3 run put GU at a 15-8 advantage. Campbellsville pulled within four at 17-13, but promptly offered a service error and was outscored 7-6 the rest of the way for a 25-19 Georgetown win.
Set three followed the same plot when a 9-0 run broke open a 6-6 set en route to a 25-14 Georgetown win.
The statistics validated the three-set loss. Campbellsville's hitting percentage of .033 was dwarfed by Georgetown's .225. GC led in kills 39-26 and had eight less attack errors.
Kelly Moyer led CU with nine kills followed by Rinata Aisena's six. Jackie Schwieger led the Lady Tigers with 15 of the team's 24 assists. Caitlin Dresing had double-figure digs with 14.
