Box Score ST. CATHARINE, Ky. - Campbellsville, playing some of its best basketball of the season, dismantled St. Catharine by hitting its open shots and playing a clean floor game, coming away with its fourth straight win, 71-58.
Â
The Tigers hit 5 of 7 from 3 in the first half while the Patriots (0-17) were shooting blanks, bursting out to a 37-17 lead at the intermission. SCC closed to within 39-26 just 2 ½ minutes into the second half by virtue of a 13-4 run. But CU responded with a 10-3 run of its own, punctuated by a fall-away 3 by Cedric Henderson as the shot clock was winding down.
"The last three games we've shot it well," said Coach Keith Adkins. "And that has to do with us taking good shots and Cedric creating opportunities off the dribble."
CU (20-8) led by as many as 27 in the second half as they canned 51percent of its shots from the field and an efficient (until missing six of eight down the stretch) 11-18 from the free throw line. Campbellsville rang up an impressive, but disheartening, 63 percent from 3-point range. and seemed to answer every SCC run with a couple of bombs.
"We talked about what our best game plan would be and we decided on coming out and getting after them and competing," said Adkins. "And, I think for the most part, we did."
The win moves the Tigers into a third-place MSC tie with the Patriots Cumberlands , all at 8-6. At one time CU was 2-6 in the conference.Â
"Our guys are hungry right now," Adkins continued. "We know what we can accomplish if we keep winning."
Cedric Henderson led Campbellsville (20-8) with 20 points and was joined in double figures by Justin Ennis (12) and Malik Thomas (10).
Delonte Taylor led St. Catharine (13-11) with 18 points.
The Tigers stay on the road Thursday for a 9 p.m. tipoff at Lindsey Wilson College. The game will be broadcast over university radio (88.7). A link for listening on the computer can be found at www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
