Lady Tigers get big road win at West Virginia Tech, 77-60

MONTGOMERY, W.Va. - Campbellsville scored the first eight points of the second half and that was enough to propel the Lady Tigers to a sloppily-played 77-60 win Saturday at West Virginia Tech.

"Anytime you go on the road and get a win, it's good," said Assistant Coach Miranda Denney, standing in for her boss, Ginger Colvin. "We didn't handle the ball well in the first half, but we did a little better in the second."

Leading by eight with 11:30 to go in the game, Campbellsville pounded the offensive glass and worked to a 64-48 margin with four minutes to go. Caroline Owen drained a 3 to give the Lady Tigers that lead. That lead increased to 17 when Lindy Young hit two free tosses with 1:32 remaining.

CU (16-9, 6-5) out-rebounded WVT 46-34 and had 13 offensive boards, led by Mackenzie Lee's  11 rebounds.

CU played in foul trouble most of the game as Chelsea Craig and Megan Isaacs both drew their fourth with about eight minutes to go.

Tech (6-18) led 12-9 at the 12-minute mark of the first half, but back-to-back 3s by Katie Allen and Mackenzie Lee pushed the Lady Tigers to a 21-14 edge. Tech closed to within four at intermission

"We got much better looks in the second half, because we threw it into the post first," said Denney. "Sometimes we didn't get a shot from the post, but we drew defenders and opened it up for outside looks."

The Lady Tigers shot 64 percent in the second half to improve a 36 percent first-half shooting effort to 49 percent for the game. CU had one of its worst free throw shooting performances of the season, hitting just 12 of 22.

Lee led Campbellsville with 14 points. The Mt. Sterling, Ky. junior added 11 rebounds for a double-double and dished out six assists and had four steals. She was joined in double figures by Megan Isaacs' 11.

Amy Gardner and Amber Tully each had 17 to lead Tech.

The Lady Tigers are home Thursday when they host University of Pikeville. Tipoff will be at 6:00 and the game will be broadcast over university radio (88.7). A link for listening on the computer can be found at www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
