Tigers fall at West Virginia Tech, 80-57

Box Score MONTGOMERY, W.Va. -- Campbellsville University shot 40 percent Saturday, but it wasn't enough to control West Virginia Tech on the road as the Golden Bears blew past the Tigers for an 80-57 win.

 


The Tigers and Golden Bears played basket-for-basket in the first few minutes of the game, taking a 12-10 lead on a layup by Jordan Myers. The basket was the final lead of the day for Campbellsville, just five and a half minutes into the game. West Virginia Tech went on an 11-0 run to stretch its lead to nine before CU worked the score back within in a basket, 21-18, after back-to-back 3s by Bryton Taylor and Justin Ennis.

The gap was only closed shortly, as the Golden Bears used a 9-2 run to pull ahead, 30-20, with three minutes left in the half. Tech's lead never dropped below double figures, entering the half with a 34-24 lead.

In the second half, Tech exploded offensively, shooting 66.7 percent from the floor, including seven 3-pointers. Tech outscored Campbellsville 27-15 in the first seven minutes of the half to go up 22, 61-39, with a 3-pointer by Terrae Clark. The Golden Bears maintained their lead down the stretch. Kevin Bobson hit three 3s in the second half for Campbellsville and led the Tigers with 11 points, but CU was held to only 25 rebounds in the game to Tech's 37.

Five Golden Bears scored in double figures, led by 4 from Eddie Hayaden, 12 by Donald Robinson, 11 each from Rahshon Tab and Josh Proctor and 10 from David Rawlinson.

Campbellsville (16-8, 5-6 MSC) will return home to Powell Athletic Center on Thursday, Feb. 9 to host No. 20 University of Pikeville in a Mid-South Conference game at 8 p.m. EST.
