CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - One of the biggest problems with facing a bottom
dweller in the Mid-South Conference is complacency. But Campbellsville
would have none of that Thursday night as they dispatched Pikeville
93-48.
The game was nearly a carbon copy of the one on Jan. 5 in which CU (17-9, 7-5) beat the Lady Bears 92-52. In that game Campbellsville pushed to an 11-point half-time advantage and cleared its bench in the second half.
Campbellsville hit 49 percent of its shots, 56 in the first half. The Lady Tigers also got back on track from the free throw line, hitting 13 of 17 for 77 percent.
"I though we hit a rhythm midway through the first half and kind of took control of the game from there," said Coach
Ginger Colvin. "I think Pikeville (4-21, 0-13) is a little shorthanded right now and they got a little fatigued."
The Lady Tigers broke open a close game with six minutes to go in the first half with a 20-2 run to end the half with a 48-28 lead. During that run
Courtney Clifton hit two of her three first-half 3s. CU got 33 points from its bench and 10 of the 11 Lady Tigers who logged minutes, scored.
In the second half, CU went on a 12-2 run to start and that pretty much sealed the game.
"We got good minutes for everyone and got really productive minutes for (Chelsea) Craig, (Lindy) Young and (Daizah) Kimberland. Young had 12 points in 11 minutes and Kimberland had seven rebounds.
"Chelsea had a a ton of hustle plays that don't go on a stat sheet," continued Colvin.
Clifton led CU in scoring with 17 and was joined in double figures by
Chelsea Craig (11),
Megan Isaacs (12) and Lindy Young 12.
Pikeville was led by Brogan Conley with 10.
Campbellsville got 66 of its 93 points from the bench.
"These are tough games to coach," said Colvin. "You want to make sure you get everyone their minutes. We've got a good group of kids who pull for each other."
