CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville can't stand prosperity. The Lady Tigers rallied for a 5-3 win in the first game against Georgetown Tuesday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park, but they failed to validate it, losing the second game 2-0.
Campbelsville 5, Georgetown 3The Lady Tigers rallied from a 2-0 deficit with solo home runs from
Courtney Turpin and
Kristin Benton inn the second and third innings to tie the game and then went up for good with a two-run fourth.
Campbellsville (14-10, 3-0) loaded the bases on walks issued by Georgetown pitcher, Michelle Dresselhaus, with one out.
Alyssa Barker,
Jordan Cornett and
Kacie Vincent were issued the free passes and Barker scored on a passed ball and Cornett on a ground out by Benton.
CU added an insurance run in the fifth when
Jennifer England, who reached on an error, scored when Cornett hit a sacrifice fly to left.
Georgetown (10-5, 2-1)added a run in the top of the seventh when Chelsea Riney plated Hillary Plain, who walked.
Turpin got the win, going the distance, allowing eight hits, two walks and three strikeouts. All five CU runs were credited to Dresselhaus, who did see relief in the sixth from Katie Mann.
Turpin had a two-hit game and
Emma Napier, Benton,
Bailey Dillender and Cornett one each.
Georgetown 2, Campbellsville 0Katie Man salvaged a split for Georgetown (11-5, 3-1) with a masterful two-hit shutout of the recently punchless Lady Tigers (14-11, 3-1).
Hillary Plain's solo homer in the top of the second proved to be the only run Georgetown would need. They got another run in the top of the seventh off a hit, a stolen base, a walk and a error.
Campbellsville's two hits came from Cornett and
Heather Oakley.
Taylor Wroe started and went four frames, giving up five hits and a run.
Martina Riney came in in the fifth and allowed two hits.
Campbellsville travels to Williamsburg, Ky. on Thursday for a double-header with University of the Cumberlands. First game starts at 4:00.
