WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - It has been either feast or famine for the Lady Tigers so far this season, but it was a big-time feast Thursday in the first game of a double header at the University of the Cumberlands as the Lady Patriots went down 8-3.
.
The second game was in a lightning delay before it ever got under way, and then was cancelled because of rain.
Campbellsville (15-11, 4-1) went off for 16 hits, tying a season record,
Emma Napier's four-hit, two RBI performance was a home run away from hitting for the cycle. She had two singles, a double and a triple.
Kacie Vincent had a two-hit game (all singles), and three other players had two-hit games.
Bailey Dillender had a single and a double,
Heather Oakley two doubles and
Kristin Benton a single and a homer.
Jordan Cornett had a double and
Jennifer England added a single.
Courtney Turpin picked up the win, moving her to 8-6 on the season, pitching a four-hitter.
Martina Riney came on in relief in the sixth and gave up one hit and held Cumberlands scoreless.
Cumberlands (2-14, 2-3) led 1-0 after one inning, but a three-spot in the top of the third for CU erased that and the Lady Tigers never trailed again. Campbellsville scored two more in the top of the fourth and one each in the fifth, sixth and seventh.
Benton singled home Cornett in the third, and Oakley's double plated Benton. Turpin then hit into an error, scoring Benton.
In the fourth, Napier scored on Dillener's single and Dillender on Oakley's double. In the fifth, Vincent singled and took second on an error and scored on Napier's triple. Benton's homer led off the sixth and Napier doubled home Vincent for CU's final run.
