Katie White sits two strokes out of the lead after day one of the Mid-South Conference Spring Tournament to lead Campbellsville University women's golf to a third-place standing at the Cattails at Meadowview.
White shot 38 on the front nine and was three-under par on the back half before finishing up with another 38. She is five-over par with a 76.
White led the field of 32 golfers in birdies with five
Kayla Kincer also shot in the 70s with a 79 to sit in a tie for sixth-place. Kincer led her team with nine pars and led all golfers on the five par 3 holes, shooting -1. As a team, Campbellsville had 11 birdies on the day.
Campbellsville's other top four are
McLane Farr and
Caitlyn Wilkerson, who each shot 83.
MeLeigha Pollock shot 87.
"Our goal today was to put ourselves in contention to win, and with a couple of scores in the 70s, we've done that. Tomorrow will be a very exciting round," said Lindsey Hines, Lady Tiger golf coach.
Campbellsville is six strokes back of Lindsey Wilson College (315). Kelsey Joslyn is tied for third with White, while Kaitlin Allan is tied with Kincer in sixth. The Blue Raiders other three golfers shot 80, 80 and 81. University of the Cumberlands (307) leads the tournament by an eight-stroke lead of LWC and has a 14-stroke advantage on CU. The Patriots have the top three individual scores, led by Christina Jimenez with a 74. However, Cumberland's fourth score was an 82 and fifth was 84.
The Tournament concludes Tuesday, April 3. The team with the best combined standing in the MSC Fall Tournament and MSC Spring Tournament will be declared the regular season MSC champion.
