DANVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville forced an if necessary game Saturday, but Lindsey Wilson put away their third straight MSC Tournament championship by scoring nine first-inning runs in the title tilt, winning 20-2.
The Lady Tigers had won six straight to force a second game, taking charge of the morning encounter 11-7 on the shoulders of
Courtney Turpin's seven-hit, complete-game win.
But in the championship game Lindsey Wilson scored those nine first-inning runs and just kept pouring it on as Coach
Shannon Wathen used her entire stable of pitchers. Lindsey pounded out 19 hits, five of them homers that produced 12 of the 20 runs.
The win assures Lindsey Wilson (46-10) of its third straight trip to the NAIA National Championship on May 17-23 in Gulf Shores, Ala. Campbellville's season is likely over as the Lady Tigers finish 37-22.
In game one, the Lady Tigers scored two runs in the second inning on an error by second baseman Jane Egiazarova and made things worse in the third with five more runs on three errors.
Lindsey Wilson finished with four errors in the game and never got closer than a four-run deficit after falling behind 5-0 early.
Emma Napier and
Kristin Benton both had three-hit games, Benton collecting four RBIs ... three on a sixth inning homer.
Bailey Dillender had two hits and an RBI,
Sara Paragon a single and two RBIs and
Brooke Boils and
Heather Oakley one hit apiece, Oakley's a home run.
Cara Law was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs on two hits.
In game two, Campbellsville's only runs came on Dillender's second-inning home run with
Jordan Cornett aboard. The Lady Tigers managed but four hits off Lindsey's Kristina Krupinski. Cornett, Dillender, Benton and Oakley collected those.
LWC Shortstop Jamie Williams hit a three-run homer in the first inning, designated player Amy Buwalda added a solo shot and second baseman Jordan Gilland hit another three-run homer over the fence to put Campbellsville on its heels.
