KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Campbellsville University women's golf played its best round in program history Tuesday, shooting a 305, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 14 stroke difference. The Lady Tigers finished 10 strokes out of first to finish runner-up for the Mid-South Conference Spring Tournament at Cattails at Meadowview, despite winning the round by more than four strokes.
The 305 score bested CU's previous program record by nine strokes.
Leading the way for CU was junior
Katie White, who shot 76, 76 to finish tied for first place with University of the Cumberlands' Liz Stephens. It took Stephens three playoff holes before edging White for low medalist honors. White's two-day score of 152 earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team.
She was joined by teammate
Caitlyn Wilkerson, who shot one-over par, 72, Tuesday. Wilkerson shot 83 on Monday to finish in fifth-place with a 155.
Kayla Kincer shot 156 in the tournament (79-77) to finish sixth. CU's other top four score belonged to
MeLeigha Pollock, who rebounded from her 87 on Monday to shoot 80 on Tuesday and finish with a 167.
McLane Farr shot 170 for the tournament (83-87).
Lindsey Wilson College, which sat in second place Monday with a 315, shot 320 as a team Tuesday to slide into third place, nine strokes behind Campbellsville. Because of Lindsey Wilson's third-place finish in the Spring Tournament, Cumberlands claims the regular season MSC championship with a 9-1 record against MSC teams in the fall and spring regular season tournaments. LWC, which won the fall tournament, is second in the final regular season standings at 8-2, while Campbellsville finishes third at 7-3 after placing third in the fall and second in the spring.
Campbellsville women's golf will return to action April 23-24 in the Mid-South Conference Championship at Maywood Country Club in Bardstown, Ky.
