WILMORE, Ky. — Campbellsville dug itself a 2-0 hole Saturday, but dug its way out in defeating Asbury 3-2 in volleyball in the Luce Center.
The win keeps the Lady Tigers record unblemished at 3-0. Asbury falls to 1-2.
After losing the first two sets 25-18 and 25-19 CU rallied to win 25-20, 25-15 and 15-8.
After playing from behind most of the early afternoon, Campbellsville broke open a 19-19 third set on two attack errors by the Eagles. Haley Bechtel nailed a kill for a 22-19 lead. Another attack error by Asbury and a combo block by Laura DeGear and Betchel gave the Lady Tigers a 24-19 lead. Kira Stewart's kill sealed the 25-20 win.
Campbellsville led 11-6, 18-10 and 22-11 en route to a 25-15 fourth set win.
In the deciding set, CU never trailed after a 6-6 tie. Bechtel had another kill to give CU the lead for good. But after Asbury closed to within 9-8, one kill by DeGear and two by Betchel supported a 12-8 lead that led to the 15-8 win.
According to Asbury stats, Betchel, DeGear and Daiane Souza led the Lady Tigers in kills with 17, 12, and 12, respectively. Kelly Moyer added eight kills to the 57-kill Lady Tiger attack.
Betchel also had a team-leading 21 digs followed by Audrey Sanders (18), Caitlin Dresing (12) and Kira Stewart (11). Stewart had 42 assists and DeGear four blocks. Tara Robertson, Moyer and Betchel had three blocks each.
The Eagles could not find an answer for Bechtel who had a .279 hitting percentage. The Lady Tigers hit .206 for the match while the Eagles hit only .086.
Campbellsville will return home for its first conference match when Lindsey Wilson comes calling at 7:00 Wednesday. The junior varsity will play at 5:00.
