Tigers shut out at No. 1 Lindsey Wilson

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The top-ranked team in the nation proved to be just that when Campbellsville University men's soccer traveled to Lindsey Wilson College for its Mid-South Conference opener Tuesday, Sept. 11. CU, now 4-2 on the season, lost its second straight game, 4-0.

The Blue Raiders seemed to keep possession of the ball for most of the game, but only put up 10 shots. Campbellsville shot four times, never finding the net.

Lindsey Wilson finished with one save in the contest, in comparison to Max Malachiyev's five for Campbellsville.

Roraigh Yearwood fired a shot high in the first minute of the game, but Campbellsville could never find any momentum.

Lindsey Wilson's Tom Moody put the Blue Raiders up 1-0 early, scoring in the ninth minute of the first half, from less than 10 yards out. He scored again with 18:02 left to play in the first half, giving Lindsey Wilson a 2-0 lead entering halftime.

Campbellsville's second and final shot of the first half was also high, as Adam Fridell attempted to put the Tigers on the board with two minutes left to play before the break.

A different style of play was shown by Lindsey Wilson in the second half, as the Blue Raiders showed off their speed and ball handling abilities.

Lindsey Wilson used a pair of goals in the 61st and 63rd minutes as insurance, sealing the deal.

"We're a young team, and I think when we started, there were some guys that were afraid," CU head coach Adam Preston said. "Lindsey Wilson has a reputation and as the game went on, we started to play a little bit better. We started to get some confidence. It's a growing point; a jumping off point for the season."

Preston noted that playing the number one team in the nation was a different caliber of play then that of the opponents CU had faced entering into Tuesday's game. But said his team will be more prepared for their upcoming game this weekend after playing No. 1.

Campbellsville will host Martin Methodist Saturday at 2 p.m. at Citizen's Bank Field in Finley Stadium during Family Weekend at Campbellsville University. Live video and live stats of that game can be found on www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
