Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- It was a long afternoon for the Campbellsville University Lady Tiger soccer team. After going into double-overtime with Mount Vernon Nazarene, the teams ended the day with a 0-0 tie. Head Coach Thom Jones is satisfied with his team's performance.
"It was a hard-fought game with both teams battling for 110 minutes," said Jones. "I'm proud that my team didn't give up. These types of games are making us physically and mentally stronger for the end of the season."
The Cougars kept the pressure high on CU's defense, with a total of 13 shots, seven being on goal. Thankfully, junior keeper Brandie Hagerman had all seven saves.
Three of Campbellsville's five shots were on goal. Senior midfielder Cassie Yannelli had two of them, and the other came from junior Bailey McDonough. Yannelli's second attempt along with McDonough's came in the last five minutes of the second half, but Cougar goalkeeper Lexus Andolino saved both. Rebekah Carl also had a shot in the 47th minute, but missed high.
CU (2-2-1) will return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. against Roberts Weselyn College in Day 2 of the Lady Cougar Classic at Mount Vernon Nazarene. To follow the Lady Tigers, go to www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
