BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — CU Volleyball received a rude welcome on Day 1 of the Olivet Nazarene Homestead-Holiday Inn Invitational, losing to No. 22 Viterbo 3-0 (17-25, 20-25, 22-25) and then to No. 29 Cornerstone 3-1 (25-23, 20-25, 17-25, 23-25).
Campbellsville vs. Viterbo
The No. 22-ranked team from LaCrosse, Wisc. had the Lady Tigers on their heels from the get-go, racing to leads of 13-6 and 20-10 before winning Set 1, 25-17.
Haley Bechtel led CU (4-2, 1-1) against Viterbo (13-3) with 10 kills. She also added six digs. Kira Stewart was credited with 28 assists. Daiane Souza had eight kills and seven digs. Caitlin Dresing had eight digs to lead the team in that statistical category.
Campbellsville vs. Cornerstone
Cornerstone (6-1), ranked 29th, overcame a first-set loss to pin a second straight match loss on Campbellsville (4-3, 1-1).
Campbellsville had 14 of its 41 kills in the first-set win, but averaged only nine per set the rest of the match.
Kelly Moyer and Bechtel had 10 kills each and Jana Kortas nine and Souza six. Audrey Sanders had two services aces and Stewart had all 36 of the team's assists. Dresing led the team with 18 digs, followed by Bechtel (13) and Stewart and Sanders with 10 digs each.
The Lady Tigers will return to the court at Olivet tomorrow with a 10:30 a.m. match against the host school and then a 4 p.m. match against Grand View University (11-2).
