LEBANON, Tenn. — In a match that lasted 62 minutes, the Lady Tigers defeated Cumberland University in volleyball, 3-0 (25-19, 25-17 and 25-16).
It was the second trip to Tennessee in three days after Campbellsville went 4-0 in the Cumberland University Volleyball Classic that ended on Saturday.
The Lady Tigers (11-4, 3-1) led in kills 38-25 and attacking percentage .375-.054. Cumberland dropped to 5-10, 0-4.
After trailing 0-3 in the first set, CU took the lead on the first of two Audrey Sanders' service aces and never really looked back the rest of the night. Laura DeGear, Rinata Aisena, Kelly Moyer and Haley Betchel led the Lady Tigers in first-set kills with five, four, three and three, respectively.
Sanders' second-set service ace gave CU a 17-5 lead, but the Lady Tigers did allow Cumberland to outscore them 12-8 during the rest of the 25-17 second-set win.
Three consecutive kills by Daiane Souza in the third set helped her team to a 9-5 lead as the Lady Tiger cruised to a 25-16 win.
DeGear led CU with 11 kills. Aisena had nine, Souza seven, Bechtel six and Moyer five. Caitlin Dresing led the team with eight digs and was supported by five each by Aisena and Sanders. Kira Stewart had 28 assists.
The Lady Tigers will stay in Tennessee through tomorrow and will play Bethel University in McKenzie, Tenn. at 8:00. The junior varsity will play at 6:00.
