Four Tigers receive NCCAA football honors

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Four Campbellsville University Fighting Tiger football players have received All-NCCAA Football Team honors, the National Christian College Athletic Association office announced Wednesday.
 



 

Redshirt sophomore Blake Young, a linebacker from Marietta, Ga., is the Tigers' only First Team selection. Freshman slot receiver Jarrod Harrington of Parksville, Ky., and sophomore defensive back Darius Skinner of Winchester, Ky., were named Second Team selections, while junior linebacker Nick Reed of Harrodsburg, Ky., was named honorable mention.

Young led CU with 110 tackles on the season, passing 200 for his career. He had 57 solo stops , 53 assisted tackles, 12 tackles for a loss and three sacks. He also blocked four kicks, setting a CU record for single-season blocked kicks and also now holds the CU career record for blocked kicks with six.

Harrington posted back-to-back 100-plus yard games against MSC West division programs Faulkner University and Bluefield College to close the season. He finished the year with 459 yards on a team-high 37 catches and had one touchdown. He averaged 12.4 yards per catch and 3.4 receptions per game.

Skinner was a leader for the Tigers on special teams and in the secondary. On defense in 2012, he had 52 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and two sacks. He led the Tigers with four interceptions and also had two forced fumble and one fumble recovery. On special teams, he collected a single-season record 679 kickoff return yards on 26 attempts, with a long of 66. He also returned 19 punts for 213 yards. He finishes his second season with the Fighting Tigers ranked third on the all-time list for punt returns (50) and punt return yards (452). He is also fourth on the career lists for kick returns (50) and kick return yards (1,149). He also set the record for most kickoff return yards in a single game with 186 yards on six returns against No. 1 Georgetown College.  

Reed was a force to be reckoned with early in the season, but missed a number of games and reps due to various injuries. He finished the season third on the team with 62 tackles (27 solo, 35 assisted). He also had 15 tackles for a loss, including two sacks. On Nov.3, he recovered a fumble at the Faulkner 1 yard line and scored his first collegiate touchdown.

Young, Harrington and Skinner were also named All-Mid-South Conference for the 2012 season and Reed received All-MSC honorable mention.
