Scantland wins her second tournament of the year

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Cassidy Scantland followed up her first-day 74 with another one just like it to win medalist honors at the Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Fall Classic at Cherry Blossom Golf & Country Club.

As a team, the Lady Tigers carded their best collective round of the year, a 319, and held on to third place in the seven-team field.

"It was a good day overall," said Coach Brent Vernon. "I just keep seeing improvement from all our ladies.

"Unfortunately we didn't move up in the standings like we wanted to, but again, I'm very happy and proud of our team."

Campbellsville had five players in the top 20 in the 44-player field. Seniors Caitlin Wilkerson and Kayla KKincer were both forced to withdraw. Kincer, who has battled shoulder injuries during her three-plus-year career, is out for the semester.

"I so respect Kayla so much for fighting through this and now we have to wait and see what her doctor says," said Vernon. "Hopefully she can return for the spring season."

Scantland was solid, according to Vernon. She opened with a double bogey, but regrouped to shot even par over the next 17 holes. It was Scantland's second tournament win in three starts this fall.

"She's slowly making a name for herself," continued Vernon. "People are going to recognize who she is at other tournaments from here on out."

Anna Marie Hyatt improved three shots over her first-day 83 and fired a 163 (83-80), good for 15th place. Ashley Goodin 164 (83-81) and Olivia Parrott 167 (83-84) were close behind. Goodin was in 16th place and Parrott 19th. Grace Gupton, playing as an individual, shot 169 (85-84), good enough for 20th place.

Pikeville's Katy Humphrey 149 (75-74) finished one shot back in the individual standings and Cumberlands Taylor Gillis finished at 150 (75-75).
