Eight-game win streak comes to end against LWC

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville (13-3, 7-2) came in with an eight-game winning streak on the line as they played host to Lindsey Wilson College (19-0, 9-0) in front of a packed Powell Athletic Center. The Blue Raiders swept Campbellsville in straight sets (32-30, 25-18, 25-13).

Lindsey Wilson came into the match as the No. 8 team in the nation and was the favorite, but Campbellsville came out in the first set and took it to the Blue Raiders. The Lady Tigers led the first set 17-12 and that forced Coach Andy Cavins to call his first and only timeout needed on the night. CU came out of the timeout and scored two quick points off an ace by Kelly Moyer and a ball handling error by Kala Meservey. But the Blue Raiders went on a 6-0 run and took the lead 22-21.

The rest of the first set went back and fourth as both teams were using solid defense to counter with their offensive attack. But Lindsey Wilson prevailed and won the first set 32-20.

Rinata Aisena and Jana Kortas led the Lady Tigers with four kills each in the first set as Jackie Schwieger had 14 assists on the 17 kills for CU.

The second set started with a kill for LWC as Mattie Tigges received a pass from Alex Just and slammed the ball past the Campbellsville defense.

The Lady Tigers tied the knot at 17 but Lindsey Wilson started to take control of the rest of the set as they went on an 8-1 run to end the second set, 25-18.

Campbellsville could not overcome the Blue Raiders one-two punch with Nadelina Nechseva and Sarah Anderson. The juniors led LWC with 27 combined kills on the night and it was too much for the CU defense to handle.

The third set ended 25-13 and completed the sweep for Lindsey Wilson.

Campbellsville will travel to Indiana Wesleyan University tomorrow to face the Lady Wildcats at 7 p.m. EST. Live stats will be available and will be updated throughout the day tomorrow.
