CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University won its second straight Mid-South Conference match Saturday, defeating the University of Pikeville in three sets: 25-19, 25-7, 25-16.
Pikeville didn't make it easy early, as the Bears rallied from a 4-1 deficit to take a 7-5 lead. However, CU scored six straight points to go up 11-7 in the first set and then held off a late rally that pulled UPike within two, 20-18.
CU took a 10-4 lead in the second set and had little trouble in the 25-7 win. Giselle Hernandez led CU with five kills and Rinata Aisena had four in the set, while the Krista Mihelson entered and served four aces to rally the Lady Tigers.
UPike made the Lady Tigers work for their third set, taking a 14-13 lead. However Daiane Souza, Hernandez, Kelly Moyer and Aisena grouped together a 7-0 run. The Lady Tigers allowed only three more points in the match with Aisena and Jana Kortas closing out the win with a block.
Aisena led CU with 16 kills followed by 11 for Hernandez. Audrey Sanders and Souza each had an ace to go along with Mihelson's four. CU had five total blocks in the match. Setter Jackie Schwieger led CU with 37 set assists.
CU (15-4, 9-2 MSC) will return to action Tuesday, Oct. 15 with a trip to No. 11 Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky. Start time is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
