Volleyball rally falls shorts at Lindsey Wilson

COLUMBIA, Ky. — Lady Tiger volleyball showed some spunk, but in the end it still went down as a four-set loss to Highway 55 rival Lindsey Wilson College. Campbellsville forced a game four, but could not overcome errors in key situations as Lindsey Wilson beat the Lady Tigers 3-1, (23-25, 17-25, 25-23, 16-25).

Lindsey Wilson took control of the match, winning the first two sets, but Campbellsville rallied in the third and would not allow the sweep. Kelly Moyer recorded five kills in the third set and came away with the set-winning block on an attempt by LWC's Alexa Just.

"I saw a lot of good things tonight," said Zink. "We did not give up and played much better this time around with Lindsey Wilson than the first."

Lindsey Wilson was not over-powering like they were in the Oct. 1st matchup in Campbellsville. The Blue Raiders recorded only 48 kills compared to CU's 46. And Campbellsville committed 25 errors compared to LWC's 23. But the one stat that stuck out like a sore thumb was the service errors. Campbellsville recorded 17 compared to Lindsey Wilson's seven.

Campbellsville struggled serving the whole night, and it was critical to the outcome. CU and Lindsey Wilson were neck-and-neck at 18 points apiece in the first set but after three quick Blue Raider points, the Lady Tigers committed their sixth service error which turned out to be costly as LWC won by only two points.

Campbellsville relies heavily on its serves to create trouble for its opponent's counter attack and to steal points early in the rally. But 17 service errors is definitely the one stat that stuck out on the night.

"Having so many service errors in the match is unacceptable," said Coach Amy Zink. "Without getting the ball over the net, it doesn't give us a chance to battle for a point."

The errors came at key moments of the match. Campbellsville would come within one point or even tying the set, but the momentum would shift back to the Blue Raider bench after the errors.

On the flip side, Campbellsville did not lay down as the 11th ranked Blue Raiders hosted a crowd that was mostly made up of the LWC football team. As the chants were directed to the Lady Tigers, the crowd made a huge impact.

In the fourth set, Campbellsville could not muster enough offense as Lindsey Wilson led the entire way. The Blue Raiders went on two, 6-0 runs and sealed the season sweep over CU.

"We are learning more and more about our players every match," said Zink. "Games like these are preparing us for a run in the last part of the season."

Campbellsville is now 15-5 and 9-3 in the Mid-South Conference. The Lady Tigers will travel to New Albany, Ind. on Saturday, Oct. 19 to face off with the host Indiana University Southeast and Point Park University in their second tri-match of the season. CU will not return home till Oct. 29 when it hosts No. 23 Georgetown College in Powell Athletic Center.
