BARDSTOWN, Ky. – Four out of five Tiger golfers shot the same or better in their second round Tuesday at the St. Catharine College Fall Invitational, as Campbellsville slipped to third place at the Bradstown Country Club at Maywood.
Campbellsville entered the day three strokes out of first place and tied with the University of Pikeville for second place after shooting 315 as a team Monday. Cumberland University ran away with the tournament on the second day, shooting 298 as a team for a two-day total of 610. Pikeville and CU were neck-and-neck with the Bears edging CU 624 to 626 for their two-day scores after a 309 on Tuesday. Asbury University also shot 309 on Tuesday to climb into fourth place behind Campbellsville.
Micahel Newton shot 77 and 77 in his two rounds to lead Campbellsville and finish tied for sixth place individually. Brandon Collier's score dipped Tuesday from a first-round 75 to a team-low 80, as he slid from third to eighth place individually. Cody Goodwin and Tanner Hall each shot 79 on Tuesday after shooting 80 and 83, respectively, Monday, while Lukas Kvaavik improved from his 90 in the first round to lead all CU players with a 76 on Tuesday.
Individually, Cumberland University's Ryan Botts won low medalist honors, while Asbury's Steven Brooks was second and Pikeville's Timmy Miller was third. Cumberland University's Austin Garrett and Zach Johnson rounded out the Top 5.
The tournament concludes CU's regular season fall lineup. The Lady Tigers will close the fall Oct. 21-23 in the National Christian College athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championships, which will be played at the Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla.
