NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Campbellsville University rallied from down 2-0 to win a five-set match at Indiana University Southeast and complete a trimatch sweep over IUS and Point Park University Saturday.
CU dropped the first two sets 26-24 and 25-21 before shutting down the host Grenadiers in three straight sets: 25-15, 25-11 and 15-4. The Lady Tigers opened the afternoon with a three-set win over Point Park (25-14, 25-12, 25-22).
Campbellsville's win over IUS is its second comeback from a 2-0 deficit this season, having rallied in the third weekend of September to beat Trinity Christian in five sets. Senior outside hitter Rinata Aisena had a career-high 23 kills in the Trinity Christian win and once again led the Lady Tigers with 21 of CU's 60 kills against IUS. For the day, Aisena had 30 kills and an attack percentage of .413.
While Campbellsville had 15 attack errors and eight service errors in the IUS match, mostly in the first two sets, the Lady Tigers fine-tuned their skills for the win. In addition to Aisena's 21 kills, Kelly Moyer and Jana Kortas had 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Jackie Schwieger paced CU's offense with 39 assists and added 14 digs, tying her career-high, to post a double-double.
CU had 12 blocks in the win, including three solo and three assisted by Aisena. Catlyn Dresing led the defense with 22 digs. CU also had 13 aces with three each from Krista Mihelsone and Haley Bechtel, who had two in the fifth set as part of serving seven-straight points.
Giselle Hernandez led CU in each set against Point Park with four, three and four kills, respectively per set. She led all Lady Tigers with 11, followed by nine by Aisena. Schwieger had 18 assists and seven digs, while Dresing had a team-high 13 digs. Moyer led CU's blocking efforts with two solo blocks. Sanders and Aisena had three and two aces, respectively.
Campbellsville (17-5) will continue their long string of away matches on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Lee University. Start time is 7 p.m. EDT in Cleveland, Tenn. Lee is a former NAIA power now competing in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) as it transitions into NCAA Division II.
