Volleyball drops heartbreaker to Georgetown

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Comebacks in the second and third sets would have been monumental, but it was not meant to be as Camppbellsville won the opener and then dropped three straight sets to No. 20 Georgetown, losing 25-15, 22-25, 22-25, and 13-25.

Campbellsville was firing on all cylinders in the beginning, but the Lady Tigers could not finish.

Campbellsville dominated the first set, 25-15. CU used a 10-0 run and took advantage of 11 Georgetown errors. Rinata Aisena recorded three kills in the first set along with Jackie Schwieger's' six assists.

The second set was all in favor of Georgetown as it took control from the get-go. Allyson Wilbourn led GC with five kills in the set (nine total) and gave her team the boost it needed after a disappointing first set.

Even so, Campbellsville was able to cut Georgetown's second-set lead to two but Wilbourn was there to save the day for GC as her next kill put the game out of reach (25-22) and tied the match at one game apiece.

CU was down in the third set as well, 5-14, forcing Coach Amy Zink to call a timeout. Campbellsville came out and manufactured an 11-2 run to answer the call from Zink and tied the set at 16 apiece.

Syracuse, Ind. product Haley Bechtel gave Campbellsville the boost it was looking for as she recorded four kills in the 11-2 run, all off passes coming from Schwieger.

With another CU kill by Kelly Moyer, the score sat at 21-18, but Georgetown decided enough was enough and started to rally its troops. A combination of two costly CU errors and five set-closing kills allowed Georgetown to go on a 7-1 run and it seemed to take all the life out of Campbellsville by winning 25-22.

The fourth and final set started with neither team able to forge more than a one-point lead until Georgetown did at 11-9. From there, GC went on a 14-4 run to end the set, 25-13, and the match 3-1.

Campbellsville will be back in action on Thursday, Oct 31 as it hosts St. Catherine College in their annual Dig Pink game at 7 p.m. CU will be raising money for breast cancer awarness month.

The Lady Tigers are asking for your help by pledging a dollar amount that matches the total number of kills by the CU in the match. For more information see the example, here
