Lady Tigers prevail after early deficit, win in five sets

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After a third-set win and the momentum totally in favor of St. Catherine College, the Lady Patriots needed only one more set-win to secure the upset. But Campbellsville roared back to win the fourth and fifth sets and sealed its fifth straight win over the Lady Patriots, 24-26, 25-13, 24-26, 25-12, 15-12.

St. Catherine led 2-1 after a come-from-behind third-set win, but Campbellsville used the heavy hitting of two seniors, Kelly Moyer and Rinata Aisena, to rally the troops and secure the season sweep.

Campbellsville dominated the fourth set, as the Lady Tigers never trailed after a kill by Aisena making the score 3-2. Moyer led CU with five kills in the set with Aisena chipping in four.

In the fifth set St. Catherine jumped out to an early 4-2 lead and although SCC was overmatched by a packed Powell Athletic Center, the Lady Patriot faithful did everything they could to cheer on their team.

St. Catherine used momentum from a controversial umpire's call to go ahead 9-7, but Moyer was there to save the day for Campbellsville. She received a pass from setter Jackie Schwieger and recorded her 19th kill. On the next two plays Moyer used another kill, which was her career-high 20th, and a block to secure the Lady Tigers lead for the rest of the match.

St. Catherine came out in the first set and led from the get-go as the Patriots started on a 4-0 run. Rinata Aisena got Campbellsville on the board first but St. Catherine prevailed.

Campbellsville's first-set loss was its 12th of the year and the Lady Tigers have gone 6-6 in those matches. But CU went one match over .500 in that stat column tonight, losing the first set tonight 26-24, but showed resiliency in the final sets to seal the victory.

Aisena Led the Lady Tigers with 23 kills, which ties her career high from earlier in the seaeson when CU beat Trinity Christian (Ill.) on Sept. 20th.

Schwieger was successful in using the CU one-two punch, Moyer and Aisena, 43 times but also recorded a career-high 59 assists. She is now averaging 17-plus assists per set in her junior season and that right now puts her in first place in for career assists per game in a single season.

Caitlin Dresing led CU on the defensive side as she came up with 30 digs, which is only missing her career high by one.

With the win tonight, Campbellsville now improves its overall record to 20-7 and 12-4 in the Mid-South Conference. The Lady Tigers sit in third place behind No. 20 Georgetown and No. 9 Lindsey Wilson College.

Campbellsville will host its first tri-match of the year on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Powell Athletic Center. Taylor University and Indiana University Southeast will play at 4 p.m. while CU plays Taylor at 6 p.m. and concludes the night with IUSE at 8 p.m.

There will be no live stats available for any of the matches due to other CU events. Live video may be available and will be updated Friday. Visit www.campbellsvilletigers.com/schedule for more details on the weekend tri-match.
