Turnovers plague Tigers at No. 12 Faulkner

Box Score

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Fighting Tiger football was unable to spoil No. 12 Faulkner University's Homecoming on Nov. 9, despite holding the Eagles to a season-low 394 yards of offense. Faulkner took advantage of six CU turnovers for a 52-17 win over Campbellsville.

The Faulkner win, coupled by a Reinhardt loss, wrapped up at least a share of the Mid-South Conference West Division championship, creating a three-way tie with Campbellsville for first-place in the West Division.

Senior quarterback Josh Hollingsworth marched Faulkner down field on the opening possession for the Eagles' opening touchdown, a 3-yard pass to A.J. Stevenson. Campbellsville's Shane Williamson recovered a Hollingsworth fumble on the next possession to set up an 18-yard field goal by CU's Will Ward.

Trailing, 7-3, Blake Young sacked Hollingsworth for a 7-yard loss to help force a punt. While Trevon Chatman hauled in a one-handed catch to move CU near midfield, the drive eventually stalled at the Faulkner 37.

Hollingsworth took advantage of the missed opportunity, finding Trump Harrison on a 48-yard TD pass to end the first quarter, leading 14-3.

CU's turnovers began early in the second quarter, when Parnes was intercepted by Dennis Thames, setting up a seven-play touchdown drive.

After a pair of punts, Chatman took a punt back 56 yards for a touchdown, pulling the Tigers within four, 14-10, with 5:45 to play. It was Chatman's second punt return of the season, becoming the first CU player to ever return two punts for TDs in the same season.

Down 21-10, Campbellsville was driving to close the second quarter. With third down at the Faulkner 11, Parnes threw into triple coverage, being picked off by Marte Sears, who returned the pick 100 yards for a score as time expired – pushing the lead to 28-10 at halftime.

Faulkner opened the second half with another CU interception, setting up a field goal to strengthen its lead 31-10.

Hollingsworth threw two more TD passes in the third quarter, stretching the Eagles lead to 45-10. The later of the two TDs scored on a drive set up by a Tajh Milliken interception. Hollingsworth finished with 287 yards passing.

Campbellsville's only offensive TD, a 10-yard run by Jarrod Harrington, came with 12:16 left in the game. Faulkner's final TD was a 42-yard interception return by Aramis Calloway – capping a day where Faulkner scored 31 points following CU turnovers.

Milliken threw for a career-high 196 yards in the loss, but had three interceptions. Chatman was the Tigers' leading receiver with 106 yards on eight catches. Dekwain Tarrance had 10 tackles to lead CU's defense.

Campbellsville (4-5, 3-1 MSC West) will close the 2013 regular season Saturday, Nov. 16 at Finley Stadium for Senior Day against Reinhardt (5-4, 3-1 MSC West). Kickoff is 1:30 p.m. EST.
