PIKEVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University women's basketball grabbed its second road win of the week Saturday, defeating the University of Pikeville by a landslide, 91-68. Senior guard Mackenzie Lee was the game's leading scorer with 24 points and four rebounds.
"It was so great to see Mac back into the flow of things," said assistant coach Miranda Denney. "She hit her opening shots and you could just see her confidence go sky high. I think that Mac's performance at the beginning of the game eased everyone else as well. Hayley Hellyer also had a big game, taking two big charges and shooting five for five. Overall, today was a good day."
It was a scoring battle between the teams in the first half, five 3-pointers coming in the initial three minutes of the game, four of those being CU baskets. Campbellsville couldn't seem to miss, leading 14-5 at the 17 minute mark. The Bears didn't stay behind for long as junior guard Jayme Jackson scored six quick points, tying the score, 23-23, at the 11:40 mark
Two made free-throws from Lady Tiger Keisha Compton just under the 10-minute mark began a 14-4 run for Campbellsville, putting CU on top once again by 10.
Lee scored 14 in the period followed by Hellyer and Daizah Kimberland who both had eight apiece . CU ended the half with a 50-40 lead, shooting 57 percent from the field.
The Lady Tigers didn't cool down at halftime, coming out with an immediate 12-0 run, five of which were Lee's. The Bears, who shot 52 percent in the first half couldn't find their groove in the second, only managing to shoot 27 percent from the field and 18 percent from long-range.
Pikeville was unable to cut CU's lead to less than 15-points, behind by as much as 26 after a Courtney Clifton and-one.
All 16 Lady Tigers got time on the court, 15 of which made it on the scoreboard.
Following Lee's 24-point performance was Kimberland with 12 points and seven rebounds, three of which were offensive. Hellyer went 5-for-5 from the field, ending with 10 points, Mary Jehlik was behind her with eight.
