CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Lady Tigers couldn't seem to find their rhythm Thursday evening against Georgetown College, losing 83-68. The teams came into the contest tied for second in the Mid-South Conference (MSC), but the loss will knock CU to third, now tied with Shawnee State. Head coach Ginger Colvin attributes the loss to lack of passion and preparation.
"We played with zero heart tonight," said Colvin. "We can not come out at a big game like this and just expect to win. They beat us easy tonight, after we beat them just as easy earlier this season. We weren't prepared to play this game. We knew every set and what to expect but for some reason we just weren't prepared and as a coach you have to take credit for that. We were beat to death tonight on the boards and really in every aspect of the game. That is a tough loss that is going to hurt us in a lot of ways."
Georgetown won the tip and was in control the remainder of the half, scoring the initial 12 points of the game. The orange and black Tigers outscored CU 37-21 in the period, shooting 50 percent as opposed to Campellsville's 20 percent. GC's Kourtney Tyra totaled 11 points followed by Lizza Jonas with 10. None of the Lady Tigers could manage more than four points in the half. Courtney Clifton and Mackenzie Lee, normally CU's top scorers, only put up four and three, respectively.
Clifton finally found her shot in the second half, beginning the period with the first two of a 15-point performance over the next 20 minutes. The senior guard hit a lay-up at the 9:30 mark beginning a 10-1 run for the Lady Tigers, which included two 3-point baskets, one from Lee and one from Katie Allen. CU pulled within 10 points during the run, 64-54, but never could get any closer. The efforts were too little too late and Georgetown remained ahead by double-digits the until the buzzer sounded.
GC out-rebounded Campbellsville by 10, 44-34.
Jones led Georgetown with 19 points followed by Tyra and Andrea Howard who both had 18-point performances.
Clifton was the only Lady Tiger able to get double-figures, finishing with 19 points.
