CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Clutch free throw shooting proved to be the key for CU in today's Senior Day match-up against St. Catharine College. Campbellsville went 18-for-22 from the line for an 82 percent performance, the highest of the season, to edge St. Catharine, 77.73.

"Mary Jehlik was huge down the stretch for us," said coach Ginger Colvin. "She went 4-for-4 from the line, but it felt like 12-12 just because they were such needed shots. I still have no idea how St. Catharine isn't a Top-25 team because they deserve to be. They don't have a ton of depth, but they don't need it with [Janae] Howard, [Reilly] Poirier and [Machera] Calhoun."
Calhoun, who usually averages 8.5 points a game, scored a career-high of 26 against the Lady Tigers. Following her lead was Poirier with 18 and then Howard with 14.
"They have such solid players," said Colvin. "We focused so much on Howard and Poirier and then Calhoun came out like she did. You have to pick your poison with a team like this. I honestly believe that Poirier is among the Top 3 players in our conference, and has a good chance of being Player of the Year."
Mrashi Karumba, in her last game on Campbellsville's home court, hit three from behind the arc in the first half, two of which were back-to-back in the initial four minutes. Campbellsville got off to a quick lead, 10-2, at the 16-minute mark.
The Patriots remained at an arm's length until Jehlik sparked a 10-0 run at the end of the half. CU went into the locker room ahead by double-digits, 40-27.
The team came back out on fire, after senior Keisha Compton hit a quick basket, followed by six points from fellow senior Mackenzie Lee. Lee's points put CU ahead by 16, but this would their largest lead of the half.
St. Catharine soon found a new burst of energy. A 13-0 run in a span of six minutes (8:22) helped the Patriots pull within one point, 55-54.
A basket from Poirier at 6:19 tied the score, 58-58. Senior Courtney Clifton responded, making two free throws, but Calhoun put up another shot on the next possession, bringing it to a stalemate once again.
Yet again, Clifton answered, this time with a three-pointer to bring the score to 63-60 and put the Lady Tigers up for good.
Despite Calhoun's eight points in the next four minutes, CU managed to hold the lead, its last eight coming from the charity stripe.
Clifton was the CU top-scorer on her Senior Day with 18 points, followed by Jehlik with 14, Lee with 13, and Karumba with 10. Freshman Lindsey Burd finished with eight points and eight rebounds. Katie Allen contributed eight assists and six rebounds.
Other scoring contributors include: Hayley Hellyer (4), Allen (4), and Compton (3).
The Lady Tigers will finish their regular season Monday, Feb. 25 at rival Lindsey Wilson College before heading later in the week to Frankfort for the MSC Tournament. Tip-off time Monday will be at 7:00 EDT. To follow the team, go to www.campbellsvilletigers.com.
