Sweep at Pikeville leaves softball perfect in MSC

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville ran its Mid-South Conference record to 6-0 Saturday afternoon with a softball sweep of Pikeville, 4-0, 11-3.



 

The Lady Tigers have won six of their last eight and stand at 14-8 overall.

 

Campbellsville 4, Pikeville 0

 

The Lady Tigers got some late offense after freshman Victoria Decker pitched a masterful shutout, allowing just three hits in 6 1/3 innings. Taylor Wroe closed out the game, striking out two of the four batters she faced. Decker had seven Ks to her credit. It was Decker's ninth win of the year.

 

Campbellsville used five hits to plate its four runs, scoring twice in the fifth and once each in the sixth and seventh.

 

In the fifth, Sara Paragon delivered a one-out single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Brooke Boils followed Paragon with a walk and Shelby Ray hit into a fielder's choice while Paragon was being erased at third.

 

Emma Napier singled in one run and when Kacie Vincent reached on a error by Pikeville's first-baseman, Ray scored as well.

 

In the sixth, Kristin Benton walked and scored on Heather Oakley's double. Oakley was out at third trying to stretch her hit.

 

In the seventh, Taylor Borders reached on a field's choice and was credited with an RBI when Ray scored after reaching safely with one out.

 

Paragon had another hit in the game, a leadoff double in the third inning.

 

Campbellsville 11, Pikeville 3

 

The Lady Tigers banged out 12 hits and used four Pikeville errors in a six-inning run-rule win in the second game.

 

Five CU batters had two hits in the game, including a 2-for-3 effort by Kristin Benton who also had two RBIs. Kacie Vincent went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Emma Napier, Taylor Borders and Brooke Boils all went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Sara Paragon and Alyssa Barker each reached base safely.

 

CU scored in every inning but the third, with the game-winner coming in the second after a two-run first frame. Barker and Boils singled to lead off the inning and Napier delivered a one-out RBI-single and then Pikeville allowed what turned out to be the winning run on one of two errors in the frame.

 

Ccmpbellsville scored twice more in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth.

 

Napier, Vincent, Borders, Benton and Boils all had two hits in the game with Benton collecting two RBIs and a double. One of Borders' safeties was a two-bagger. Vincent had two stolen bases.

 

Pikeville got solo runs in the third, fifth and sixth.

 

Kelsi Pardue (6-4) had another solid effort from the circle, pitching six innings, allowing six hits and striking out nine.

 

Campbellsville will play for outright first place in the conference when it hosts Georgetown (14-4, 6-0) Tuesday at 2:00 in a MSC double-header at Veterans Memorial Park.
