Campbellsville 2, Georgetown 1
Senior shortstop Emma Napier gave CU the only runs needed for the 2-1 victory over Georgetown College. The Scottsville, Ky. native went yard in the first CU at-bat and then again in the last to secure the win.
"Emma has been doing great things for us," said head coach Shannon Wathen. "She is batting close to .500 right now and leading our team offensively. She is really stepping up as a senior."
Napier was the only Lady Tiger to manage a hit in her first at-bat. Both Napier and Kacie Vincent gave CU their next two hits in the bottom of the third with singles, but were left stranded.
The orange and black Tigers finally made some noise in the top of the fifth after Sandy Young reached on an error. Emily Snow replaced her on first base when a fielder's choice sent Young to the dugout, Madelyn Brown to follow with a double down the left field line for the RBI.
The teams were tied 1-1 until Napier's homer ended the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Freshman pitcher Victoria Decker only allowed two Georgetown hits out of their 24 at-bats, striking out five.
Following Napier's 3-4 performance was Vincent (2-3) with two singles. Sarah Paragon, Kristen Benton, and Heather Oakley all three managed one single a piece in the contest.
Napier now has nine home runs on the season.
Campbellsville 4, Georgetown 1
Although Georgetown outhit CU 7-6 in the second game, they were unable to push across enough runs, leaving seven on base and giving CU the 4-1 victory. Junior Heather Oakley led the team in batting, going 2-3 and ending her at-bats with a two-run homer.
Kristen Benton was walked in the bottom of the second and quickly took second base on a wild pitch. Oakley followed by singling to shortstop and advancing Benton to third base. With two outs, third baseman Brooke Boils singled a shot to center field, allowing Benton to score and giving the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Georgetown tied the score in the top of the fifth after a double from Taylor Shaw paved the way for senior Mallory Johnson to single and bring in the RBI (1-1).
Freshman Lady Tiger Shelby Ray was walked in the bottom of the inning, followed by a Napier grounder to the second baseman. Ray was put out at second on the fielder's choice. Senior Kacie Vincent singled a shot to center, advancing Napier to third, but interference from GC's shortstop allowed Napier to score and put CU on top again, 2-1.
Oakley added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth on her two-run homer, scoring Sarah Paragon who reached on fielder's choice.
Following Oakley's 2-3 performance was Napier, Vincent, Boils, and Ray each with one hit.
