CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Lady Tigers used two big fourth innings in their games against Martin Methodist College, to defeat the RedHawks, 5-3 and 9-0. CU had a four-run inning in the first contest and a seven-run inning the second. Senior Emma Napier and freshman Destiney Taul both led the team with four hits on the afternoon and three RBIs apiece.
According to the latest national poll, Campbellsville is 11th in the receiving vote category, and only one of two teams represented in the Mid-South Conference as Lindsey Wilson remains 14th. The two wins against MMU puts Campbellsville, which has won 15 of its last 19 games, at 18-8 on the season.
Campbellsville 5, Martin 3
Taul along with senior Napier led the Lady Tigers to a 5-3 victory over Martin Methodist, both with two hits and one RBI. CU had a four-run fourth inning that the Redhawks were unable to overcome, ending with only four hits versus CU's nine.
Campbellsville was first on the board in the bottom of the second after first baseman Heather Oakley reached first on a walk and was advanced to third by a Taul single to right field. Martin's shortstop missed the throw-in, allowing Oakley to score and put CU on top, 1-0.
The Lady Tigers fell apart in the top of the fourth, allowing the RedHawks to tie the score due to two Campbellsville errors and three walks (1-1).
CU's Taylor Borders brought a new energy in the bottom of the inning, though, beginning with a double to right center. Oakley followed with another double in the same gap, putting Borders across the plate.
Taul singled up the middle yet again to score Oakley and was followed by a double from fellow freshman Shelby Ray for another CU run. The second baseman advanced to third on a wild pitch and made it home on a MMU misplayed grounder on Napier's batted ball. Campbellsville ended the inning up by four, 5-1.
Martin made a rally in the top of the sixth, scoring two runs off of two hits and an error, but was unable to put any across in the seventh, giving CU the win.
Kesli Pardue allowed one hit and no runs in her three innings on the mound. Courtney Turpin pitched four innings of relief, allowing three hits and no earned runs.
Campbellsville had three errors and left seven on base, Martin had five errors and 10 left on base.
Following Taul and Napier's performance was Vincent, Benton, Oakley, and Ray with one hit a piece. Oakley and Ray also each managed an RBI.

The Lady Tigers exploded in the fourth and fifth innings of their second game against Martin, using six hits including three two-run homers to win, 9-0. Emma Napier, Kristen Benton, and Destiney Taul were the Lady Tigers to go yard and allow the game to end in a run-rule five innings of play.
After 3 1/2 innings of no results for either team, CU bats finally got hot.
Taylor Borders, who reached on a walk, was scored by a deep double to left center from junior third baseman Brooke Boils. Boils was advanced to third on Taul's fly out to right, allowing Shelby Ray to score her on a single through the hole at shortstop (2-0).
With two outs, senior lead-off Emma Napier unleashed the first two-run homer of the inning, scoring herself and Ray (4-0).
The Lady Tigers weren't finished, though. Adrian Jordan reached first after being hit by a pitch and was brought in by sophomore Kristen Benton. The lefty crushed an inside pitch over the right field fence, for another two-run long ball (7-0).
Martin was unable to respond in the fifth inning, with three straight strike outs from Martina Riney who replaced Taylor Wroe on the mound.
CU ended the day early with the final two-run homer of the day from Taul after Heather Oakley reached on a misplayed grounder.
Wroe pitched four innings, allowing only two hits and administering five strike outs.
Napier and Taul both had two hits followed by Sarah Paragon, Shelby Ray, Benton, Boils and Oakley all with one. Napier, Taul, Benton, and Boils all had two RBIs while Ray managed one.
CU ended with nine hits, zero errors, and three runners left on base. Martin had two hits, one error, and left one on base.
