WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — The Lady Tigers had yet another Mid-South Conference sweep this afternoon, defeating the University of the Cumberlands in back-to-back games. CU (23-9, 13-1 MSC) beat the Patriots (7-22, 1-14 MSC) by run rule in the first game using 13 hits. Although Lady Tiger bats fell somewhat silent in the second match-up, they were able to manage three more runs than UC for victory No. 2 on the day.
Campbellsville 10, Cumberlands 0
The Lady Tigers took no prisoners this afternoon against the University of the Cumberlands, defeating the team by run rule, 10-0. CU used 13 hits as opposed to the Patriots' seven.
Lead-off Emma Napier, already batting .505 going into today's games, went 4-for-4 in the contest, opening the game with a double. Second in the line-up, Kacie Vincent, sacrificed Napier to third followed by a double to right field from Kristin Benton for the first Lady Tiger run.
With a 3-1 count, junior first baseman Heather Oakley, hit her second homer of the season, scoring herself and Benton and putting CU ahead 3-0.
Campbellsville added another run in the second on a single from Napier to score Alyssa Barker, who reached on a walk (4-0).
CU fell silent in the third inning, but added three more in both the fourth and fifth innings to end the game in five frames.
The Lady Patriots loaded the bases on three hits in the fourth inning, but were unable to push one across, as was the case for the entire game.
Victoria Decker pitched three innings, allowing only two hits, Courtney Turpin finishing in relief allowing five.
Napier ended with four hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs. She was followed by Oakley, who had two hits, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Benton and Vincent managed two hits as well, Benton with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Vincent with one run. Brooke Boils, Destiney Taul, and Turpin each had one hit, Turpin with one run scored. Barker and Shelby Ray also scored once.
Campbellsville 4, Cumberlands 1
Cumberlands out-hit the Lady Tigers in the second game (6-4), but were unable to string them together, leaving five runners on base. Martina Riney went the distance in the circle for Campbellsville, striking out seven.
CU was first on the board in the second inning after Sara Paragon reached on a walk. She was moved around the bases on a sacrifice bunt by Brooke Boils and a ground out by Adrean Jordan. A single from junior Alyssa Barker plated Paragon to bring the score to 1-0 Lady Tigers.
UC managed two hits in the third inning to get their only run of the afternoon and tie the score (1-1).
Two more Lady Tiger runs were added in the third after UC pitcher Ashley Hopf walked the lead-off batter once again. Shelby Ray was given the free pass, followed by a double from Kristin Benton to score Ray and another double from Heather Oakley to plate Benton.
An error gave way to CU's next run, Paragon reaching second base on a dropped fly ball. The run was plated on a double to deep-right from Jordan.
Benton, Oakley, Jordan, and Barker were the four Lady Tigers to manage a hit, all four with an RBI apiece.
