DANVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University women's golf opened it 2013 spring season with a second-place finish at the Centre College Spring Invitational, played Saturday at the Danville Country Club.
Junior Kayla Kincer shot 80 to finish third individually and lead CU in her first competitive tournament of the year after having shoulder surgery. She was named to the All-Tournament Team in only her second full round after surgery.
Katie White and Caitlyn Wilkerson each shot 87 to follow Kincer's lead, while McLane Farr was the Lady Tigers' fourth score at 91. Annie Shakat shot 99.
"Today was a decent start to our spring season. Weather has limited us as it has everyone," said CU head coach Brent Vernon. "While scores were not as low as some wanted, there were some nice bright spots … As Kayla continues to fine tune some things, I see some very big things from her in the future."
CU's 345 points were 30 points behind tournament winner and host Centre College (315) and 20 points ahead of Franklin College (365). Indiana Wesleyan University was the fourth team in attendance, shooting 369 as a team. St. Catharine College was also in attendance with three individual entries.
Centre's Alyssa Brown and Whitney Miller finished ahead of Kincer, shooting 75 and 78, respectively, while Whitney Miller tied Kincer with an 80 for Centre.
The Lady Tigers will return to action April 1-2 at the SEKI Invitational and Mid-South Conference Spring Tournament at the Cherry Blossom in London, Ky. The tournament was originally scheduled for last Monday and Tuesday but was postponed due to weather.
