INDIANAPOLIS – Campbellsville University men's golf finished tied for 16th among 18 teams in its first trip to the NAIA Classic at the Brickyard Golf Club.
The Tigers shot a 316 during the first round Monday, good for 13th overall, but added four strokes on Tuesday for a round high score of 320. CU's two-day score of 636 tied with Viterbo University (320, 316) and was four strokes behind host Indiana Wesleyan University (632).
Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) won the golf classic with a 36-hole score of 589 after shooting a tournament low 291 on Tuesday, matching Lee University's 291 from Monday. The Saints edged Grand View University (Iowa) by a point and was only four points ahead of University of the Cumberlands, which shot 593 as a team.
OLLU's Aaron Flores took medalist honors, shooting 73 and 67.
Campbellsville's top golfer was senior Trey Shirley, who placed tied for 35th in the 90-golfer tournament. Shirley was the only Tiger to shoot less than 10 over par, finishing with two-day score of 154. He shot 75 on Monday, but had a 79 on Tuesday.
Scott Foster shot 158 (77-81), Kelby Robinson shot 159 (80-79), Cody Goodwin shot 165 (84-81) and Andrew Jansen shot 169 (84-85).
Campbellsville will return to action Monday and Tuesday, April 15-16, at the Georgetown College Spring Tournament at the Cherry Blossom in Georgetown, Ky.
