CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – For the first time since 2008, Campbellsville University Volleyball is 5-0 to start the season. The Lady Tigers booked their fifth straight win Tuesday evening, Sept.10, with a 3-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-18, 25-17), four-set victory over Shawnee State University. With this win, CU improves to 4-0 in Mid-South Conference play.
On the scoring side of things, senior Rinata Aisena led the pack in points. Aisena tallied up 13 kills through four sets en-route to a 20 total point evening, a CU team high.
Senior Dianne Souza added an additional 11 kills and Giselle Hernandez had 10 through four sets to the Lady Tiger team total of 55 kills in the contest. Jana Kortas had eight kills for CU.
Defensively, Campbellsville finished the match with four solo blocks as a team - one in each set, from junior Krista Mihelsone, Aisena, Souza, and senior Kelly Moyer.
CU finished with a total of four block assists as well. Aisena and Kortas each had one assisted block apiece in the first set. In the third set, seniors Hernandez and Souza combined for the final two, with one assist each.
Campbellsville finished the contest with a total of seven serving aces. Aisena had the lone ace in the first set. Junior Jackie Schwieger, senior Audrey Sanders, senior Caitlin Dresing, and Aisena each finished with an ace apiece in the second set. Aisena tallied up the final two in the fourth set, to give her a total of four aces in the contest.
"We served very aggressively and did not have many errors," said coach Amy Zink. "Each game is a learning experience and shows us things we need to work hard on, and serving has been a focus for us."
Shawnee State finished the match with a total of 46 kills, six blocks, and a serving percentage of .188. Campbellsville finished with a serving percentage of .216.
Campbellsville will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. when they will travel to No. 7 Georgetown College for a Mid-South Conference match. This match will be the start of a nine-match road show for the Lady Tigers, who will not return to the Powell Athletic Center until Tuesday, Oct. 1. During the long road stretch, Campbellsville will face three teams receiving top 25 votes, and four MSC opponents.
"We are excited about the opporutnity to play some tough competiton," said Zink. "We have a very experienced team and I believe we are up for the challenge."
