Tigers drop close battle with No. 4 Lindsey Wilson, 1-0

Box Score

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – A goal, which left both coaches scratching their head, in the 22nd minute proved to be the difference Thursday night in a 1-0 loss for Campbellsville University to No. 4 Lindsey Wilson College.

The Tigers allowed three wide shots by the Blue Raiders in the first 20 minutes of play before Aleksi Pahkasalo had the first shot on goal in the 22nd minute. Moments later, Jordan Hall was credited for a goal, which was headed and cleared on the line by Campbellsville's Alex Higdon. After play continued for a few seconds, the shot was waved a goal by the assistant referee, giving LWC its only goal of the night.

CU goalkeeper Max Malachiyev was challenged multiple times in the match, scooping up 10 saves, while John Kennedy had a blocked shot as a team save in the second half also.

"We're on level with them. I felt all game they had plenty of chances, but we had fair chances too. They put away one, and that's what it takes to win a game," Preston said. "We're getting there though. I told my guys, 'by the end of the season, we need to be at a level where this isn't a game.' We're not even close to where we're going to be, and they're not either, but by the end of the season, I want to be in position where we can walk off and not be worried about every possession and every touch. That being said, Max, John and (Adam) Friddell were huge today – the whole back line."

Offensively for CU, Eurodger Bargblor Jr. had both shots on goal, while Kevon Farquharson and Higdon each had a shot. LWC collected three shots on goal and four total from Pahkasalo, while Lwandiso Gonya and Hall each had two shots on goal.

CU was playing with a handful of players, who were banged up earlier in the week at Cumberland University.

"Playing without everyone we can, I was very impressed with their effort and personality today," Preston said.

The loss snapped a seven-game win streak for the Tigers (7-1, 0-1 MSC), who will return to action Wednesday, Sept. 25 for a Mid-South Conference game at Georgetown College at 8 p.m. EDT.
