GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Campbellsville posted its lowest 18-hole team score (323) of the season and sits in third place after Day 1 at the Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Fall Classic at Cherry Blossom Golf & Country Club.
"Early in the round we were very focused and very in tune," said Coach Brent Vernon. "The back side got to us a little bit and once we started sliding we lost that focus."
CU made the turn in 151 but shot 171 on the incoming nine, according to Vernon.
Freshman Cassidy Scantland had another impressive round, firing a two-over-par 74 (36-38) and sits a shot back of Day 1 leader, Liz Stephens of the University of the Cumberlands.
Anna Marie Hyatt, playing in her first competitive round as a member of the Lady Tigers' top five, shot an 83 (38-45) … a score match by three other Lady Tigers. Freshmen Ashley Goodin (38-45) and Olivia Parrott (39-44) shot 83s and senior Caitlyn Wilkerson, playing as an individual, also matched that score (39-44). Grace Gupton shot 85 (43-42), and Kayla Kincer shot 88 (40-48).
"Our goal is to shoot a better overall round tomorrow and move up in the standing," continued Vernon.
Campbellsville trails Lindsey Wilson by one stroke in the team standings and is six shots clear of fourth place University of Pikeville. The Lady Tigers are 19 shots out of first place.
Cumberlands had three golfers in the top five and its fourth score, an 80, was good for 10th place. Scantland, Parrott, Hyatt, Goodin and Wilkerson were all in the top 20, with the 83s in a tie for 16th out of 44 women competing.
Pikeville's Katy Humphrey and Cumberlands Taylor Gillis are in third place with first-round 75s.
