GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Campbellsville received a rude welcome to the Panther Invitational at Davenport University today, losing both ends of a two-match first day, 3-1 and 3-0.

Jana Kortas collected a match-high 17 kills, but 16 team service errors cut off any potential rallies as Saint Xavier (14-11) pulled away in the fourth set and pinned a 3-1 loss on CU (7-18, 3-6 MSC).

Campbellsville fell behind 20-11 in the first set before making it interesting by scoring eight of the next 13 points.

In set two, CU rallied from a 22-18 deficit and used a Kortas kill and an Xavier attack error to seal the 26-24 win.

Xavier gradually pulled away in the third set, distancing itself after CU closed within 9-8.

The Lady Tigers never led in fourth set in a 25-16 loss.

Brianna Harman and Jade Nelson had six kills apiece and Aleksandra Popovic and Rachel DeCoursey had five each. Jackie Schwieger collected 31 of CU's 40 assists and Kortas and Marcella Compeau had double figure digs with 14 and 13, respectively.

Olivet Nazarene 3, Campbellsville 0

Olivet (8-20) defeated Campbellsville 3-2 a couple weeks ago, but CU could not extend this match beyond three sets as Nazarene has won six consecutive sets against the Lady Tigers.

Campbellsville had 32 kills, led by Jana Kortas' seven. Bianana Harman and Jade Nelson had six kills apiece for the second straight match.

After a 13-12 deficit midway through the first set, Olivet never allowed the Lady Tigers any traction the rest of the way. Nazarene went on a 12-8 run to close the set.

The Lady Tigers worked themselves back in set two, pulling even at 13-all and leading 22-19 on Harman's kill. But Olivet used five errors by Campbellsville to close out the set 25-23.

Olivet raced to a 6-0 lead in the third and cruised the rest of the way.

Jackie Schwieger had 22 assists and Kortas l;ed the team in digs with 11.

Campbellsville will be back in action Saturday when it meets Viterbo and Trinity Christian in 10 a.m. and noon matches, respectively.
