NEW ALBANY, Ind. — Campbellsville used 11 kills apiece by Jana Kortas and Brianna Harman, coupled with a team .258 attack percentage, to turn back Indiana Southeast tonight, 25-16, 27-25 and 25-18.
The win breaks a seven match skid by CU that was sandwiched between a three-set win over Cumberland University on Oct. 2.
Â
The Lady Tigers held a 43-30 advantage in kills, had 10 more assists than the Grenadiers and won the battle of the digs 63-60.
Â
CU (8-22, 3-7 MSC) seized an opportunity at 8-8 in the first set and used a kill by Aleksandra Popovic to propel the Lady Tigers to a 12-8 edge they would never relinquish.
Â
Hannah Best had two service aces in the set and another Popovic kill gave CU a 21-12 lead.
Â
Campbellsville had to rally a bit in set two after squandering a 23-20 lead, allowing IUSE (10-12) to tie the set at 24-all when Kelsey Willinger blocked successive attacks by CU. But Kortas would pick up two kills in the last four points to provide the winners.
Â
The Lady Tigers gradually pulled away in set three, taking leads of 11-8, and 20-14 before closing the match on kills by Harman, Rachel DeCoursey and Kortas in the final six points.
Â
Krista Mihelsone had 32 of the team's 36 assists and also had two service aces and 13 digs in her stat line. Best had 13 digs to go along with her two aces. DeCoursey had nine kills and 11 digs. Popovic had eight kills.
Â
